301 Redirects And Google Penalty / Filter
For any webmaster that was let down by a possible Google penalty (or filter – whatever you call it) the most important question is with no doubt “what can I do now?”. Among all the options 301 redirects was thought to be a solution hoping they transfer the link potential but not the so-called “penalty.”
That is WRONG. It took us months to find a way out, but a 301 Redirect transfers the link strength (maybe at a lesser extend) as well as the penalties / filter put on that URL (not necessarily the home page). There are lots of posts on the net stating that 301 redirects may be a cure to get out off a penalty, but that’s WRONG. Maybe there were times the big G was one step behind that trick, but now it knows and has the counter-attack.
I wish I could end this post with a valid solution to a penalty, but at least I could share what does not work. So saving you some little time.
By the way, we’re giving up and sending 410 responses to filtered pages. We’ll start over again. We’ve waited for months, we can’t wait any more.
Ranking a page from scratch seems to take less time then the removal of this penalty. Pitty.
